TWO VIEWS OF OPENING NIGHT
November 1, 2010 The Other Venice Film Festival is not like any film festival you might have attended or heard about. It is informal and casual. Except for a few extremely high heels and two men wearing suits with ties, it was like any other Venice gathering.

TUNAHAKI.COM
2010. Tunahaki was selected for screening at the Other Venice Film Festival from out of over 2000 submissions. Venice impresario and OVFF co-founder Rueben De La Casas says of the selection of Tunahaki, “The mind-blowing acrobatics of the kids reminded me of [the artistic community of] Venice, we’re doing almost the same kinds of feats. That was the connection—their artistic goals, their joy, their freedom of expression.”

FILM: FESTIVAL
October 11, 2009 - Flavorpill Article. The sixth annual Other Venice Film Festival might be less international than Italy’s version, but it’s no less prestigious. Past Maverick Spotlight Award recipients include Werner Herzog and Roger Corman, and now, the enfant terrible of American cinema, Oliver Stone, is a proud honoree. Stone’s artistic achievements are honored with an 18th anniversary screening of his rock biopic, The Doors, which chronicles the roots of the enduring creative spirit of Venice Beach.

FRANKIEJOHNNIE.COM
The first Other Venice Film Festival, a weekend event at the Electric Lodge, is designed to call attention to the presence of filmmaking activity in the community. Charlie Chaplin introduced his beloved Tramp character in his second two-reeler for Mack Sennett in "Kid Auto Races at Venice" (1914), and Venice has been a favorite location for movies ever since, most notably Orson Welles' "Touch of Evil" (1958).
